Volunteer with Project YES!

Project YES! encourages members of the community to volunteer and be actively engaged in their community. One of our program’s goals is community strengthening. We believe, like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., that “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” AmeriCorps Project YES! recruits volunteers for member development training and workshops, service projects at the sites where members serve, and for National Days of Service.

Ways To Get Involved

Member Development

Teach a training or workshop to help develop members in their year of service. Ideas include: classroom management, stress management, career building, and other education and service related topics

Site Projects

Members recruit volunteers to engage the communities at the sites they serve. Ideas include Career Panel, Theater Workshop, Police Officer Workshop, and more!

Days of Service

Members plan and organize days of service throughout the year including: MLK Day, Global Youth Service Day, and Seeds of Service. Find more information on these events below!

MLK Day of Service

MLK Day of Service is a national day of service to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior. Every year, AmeriCorps Project YES! hosts a literacy fair at the Settlement. The goal of our literacy fair is to allow children to explore reading in a fun way and encourage literacy. Children participate in the literacy-based activities and games and receive books and other prizes. Volunteers are needed to help facilitate the games and activities. For more information about MLK Day of Service, please visit nationalservice.gov.

Global Youth Service Day

Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world and the only one that celebrates the contributions that children and youth make 365 days a year. Every year, AmeriCorps Project YES! hosts an Ultimate Field Day at Pulaski Park, Children participate in fun sports, games, activities and more in the goal of developing healthier lifestyles. Volunteers are needed to help run the sports, games, and activities. For more information about Global Youth Service Day, please visit ysa.org.

Seeds of Service

Seeds of Service is a community gardening project that AmeriCorps Project YES! hosts every year in Humboldt Park with 7-9 community gardens. The goal is to raise awareness about the importance of community gardening. Volunteers will weed, mulch, build garden beds, and more to get the gardens ready for planting season.
