Volunteer with Project YES!

Project YES! encourages members of the community to volunteer and be actively engaged in their community. One of our program’s goals is community strengthening. We believe, like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., that “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” AmeriCorps Project YES! recruits volunteers for member development training and workshops, service projects at the sites where members serve, and for National Days of Service.

Ways To Get Involved

Member Development

Teach a training or workshop to help develop members in their year of service. Ideas include: classroom management, stress management, career building, and other education and service related topics

Site Projects

Members recruit volunteers to engage the communities at the sites they serve. Ideas include Career Panel, Theater Workshop, Police Officer Workshop, and more!

Days of Service

Members plan and organize days of service throughout the year including: MLK Day of Service, Field Day, and Seeds of Service. Find more information on these events below!

Our Project YES! Days of Service provide opportunities for our neighbors to volunteer alongside service members in a wide variety of activities and events, including:

15th Annual
MLK, Jr. Day of Service

Date: January 17, 2022
Location: Northwestern Settlement

Every year, AmeriCorps Project YES! hosts a literacy fair in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.  Children pre-k through 8th grade participate in the literacy-based activities and games and receive books and other prizes. Volunteers (18 years and older) are needed to help facilitate crafts, games, and activities.  To volunteer at our Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, please register here

Seeds of Service

Date: May 7, 2022
Location: Humboldt Park

Seeds of Service is a day of service to support local community gardens in Humboldt Park. The goal is to raise awareness about the importance of community gardening. Volunteers (18 years and older) will weed, mulch, build garden beds, and more to get the gardens ready for planting season. No experience is necessary to participate in this event. Our event is inclusive for volunteers of all abilities.

Ultimate Field Day

Date: June 2022
Location: TBD

Our Ultimate Field Day was traditionally held in honor of Global Youth Service Day in April. Beginning in 2019 we have moved our Ultimate Field Day to June as a healthy kickoff to summer! This event emphasizes the importance of health and wellness in the lives of Chicago youth. Volunteers of all abilities (18 years and older) are needed to help facilitate sports, games, and activities for children pre-k through 8th grade.
